Better than Ezra is an American alternative rock band, currently composed of Kevin Griffin (songwriter, vocalist and guitarist), Tom Drummond (backup vocals and bassist) and Michael Jerome (drummer). The group was formed in 1988 when its original members were attending Louisiana State University. The initial stage of the band’s formation was made particularly difficult by the tragic suicide of original member Joel Rundell in 1990, after which the group took some time off to reassess their plan.
After returning to their music, Better than Ezra performed locally and released their own recordings, producing their first nationally released album on their label, Swell Records, in 1993. Since then, the group has signed with several professional labels and released five studio albums, all of which charted on the Billboard 200. Most recently, Better than Ezra performed across the U.S. on their summer 2009 tour, supporting “Paper Empire,” their newest album.
