Opened prior to the 2009 season, Citi Field is the new home of Major League Baseball's New York Mets. Replacing the old Shea Stadium, Citi Field will go a long way to helping fans forget their former stadium which was known by many as the worst in baseball. With seating capacity of more than 42,000, the new ballpark offers some great new features for fans.
When they enter the park they will experience the new Jackie Robinson Rotunda which pays tribute to the man who broke baseball's color barrier. Ticket holders also get have fun just outside center field at the 2K Sports FanFest area where people can play wiffleball, hit in a batting cage and much more. In 2013, Major League Baseball will put the new stadium on display when it plays host to the 2013 MLB All-Star Game and festivities.
Paul McCartney tickets help keep Citi Field at the top of the venues rankings

Citi Field blasted through the competition once again to hold on to its number one perch in TicketNews's exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, June 21. With an impressive power score of 5.07, the Flushing, NY stadium is enjoying strong ticket sales for Paul McCartney's appearances on July 17, 18 and 21. The rocker also held firm to his number one position this week in TicketNews's Top Concert Events rankings. McCartney's dates are the first ever musical events to be held at Citi Field, the new home to the New York Mets. The Mets also are enjoying solid ticket sales this season, hitting at number five in this week's Top Sports Events rankings.
Paul McCartney tickets make Citi Field the number one venue
In the wake of last week's news that Paul McCartney will play the first shows ever at the new Citi Field in Flushing, NY, the venue shot to number one in TicketNews's exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, June 14. McCartney, who also hit at number one this week in TicketNews's Top Concert Events, will perform at the newly built home of the New York Mets on July 17, 18 and 21. The legendary rocker also played the final show in the Mets' old home, Shea Stadium, last July, and of course with the Beatles performed Shea's first ever musical event in August of 1965. Mets baseball also made a respectable showing this week, with ticket sales taking the team to number six in TicketNews's Top Sports Events rankings. Citi Field power scored an impressive 3.59 this week.
Paul McCartney could follow Citi Field with Fenway concerts
With Paul McCartney playing Citi Field in Queens, NY, on July 17-18 with a hold for June 21 if needed, there is speculation that he will also perform elsewhere. Nowhere else is it as rampant as in Boston, MA, where the media has penciled him for August 5-6, but with no hold for any additional shows.
According to the Boston Herald, the management for Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox, has applied to the city for use of the venue for a concert but without any mention of the artist, who will be revealed at City Hall on June 22.
Paul McCartney concerts at Citi Field to go on sale June 15
As first reported by TicketNews on May 26, legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Paul McCartney will perform the first concerts at New York’s Citi Field, home of the Mets, on July 17 and 18, with the potential for a third show on July 21.
Tickets go on sale June 15, exclusively at 507TIXX.com and by phone at 718-507-TIXX. The concerts are rain or shine. Ticket prices are not yet available.
Paul McCartney to be first artist to play New York's Citi Field
TicketNews has learned through various reliable touring industry executives that Paul McCartney will be the first artist to perform at Citi Field in Flushing, NY. The three shows are currently scheduled for July 17-18, and the concerts, more than 40 years after McCartney's iconic performance at Flushing's Shea Stadium with The Beatles, will be promoted by AEG Live. An official announcement is probably two weeks down the line, and there may be a third date added on July 21.
The three concerts will occur during the New York Mets extended All-Star break: their last game is on July 12 and their next scheduled game is on July 27. The All-Star break is July 13-15.
Citi Field: The New Home for the New York Mets' Beltran, Reyes and Wright
The New York Mets and the New York Yankees seem to constantly battle for the back page of the New York newspapers. As the Yankees build themselves a new stadium, the Mets, not to be outdone, are also in the process on constructing a $600 million stadium of their own just outside of the left field stands of Shea Stadium.
