The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, or just simply Coachella, began in 1999 with about 25,000 fans in attendance. Despite a respectable first year, the festival was not held in 2000 due to financial concerns, but in 2001, Coachella came back and has been one of the most successful music festivals ever since. The festival takes place at the Empire Polo Fields in the Coachella Valley in Indio, California.
Coachella features multiple different musical genres including rock, alternative and hip-hop. The music festival has also become known among fans for reuniting iconic bands. In 2001, Jane's Addiction reunited, in 2003 it was Iggy Pop & the Stooges and in 2007, Rage Against the Machine came together.
In addition to the music, Coachella also features art and sculptures for fans to enjoy as well. Beginning in 2002, camping was given as an option for fans who are attending the festival, in 1999 and 2001 camping was not allowed due to security concerns.
Coachella releases tickets for 2013 festival
Cashing in on Coachella 2012's rampant success, advanced sale tickets for the music and arts festival's 2013 installment were made available a mere month after the California festivities concluded.
"We are excited to announce Coachella 2013 will again be held over two consecutive weekends," boasts the official website of the high profile Coachella Valley festival. The addition of two weekends was new for the festival last year, and something that Coachella producer Goldenvoice chose to continue in 2013 to meet the high demand for tickets. Advanced passes went on sale Thursday, May 17 at 10a.m. PDT, and will be available through the following Thursday, May 24 10p.m. PDT, or until sold out. "Then general sale will happen early next year," the site optimistically notes, so those who missed the first round shouldn't fret.
California politician resold Coachella wristbands for campaign fundraiser
California Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez is facing a public relations pickle following revelations that he resold 25 wristbands for the always popular Coachella Music Festival.
While Coachella's organizational parent company Goldenvoice outlines on the Coachella website that the festival does not "tolerate scalping of any kind at all," those same rules apparently do not apply to local California politicians. Pérez's campaign spokesman Josh Pulliam told The Desert Sun newspaper that Goldenvoice "specifically approved the campaign purchasing tickets for a campaign fundraiser."
Coachella 2012 to span two weekends with identical lineup

New York City-based rock crew The Strokes are awaiting the release of their first album in five years. To celebrate the effort — and launch a 2011 calendar filled with high-profile performances — the band has planned a blowout hometown concert.
The critically acclaimed rock quintet, fronted by Julian Casablancas, will headline an April Fool's Day show at the 20,000-capacity Madison Square Garden Arena. The show is a much larger affair than The Strokes' usual mid-sized club and theatre shows, and Rolling Stone marks it as the band's biggest NYC event to date.
