Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl formed the rock band The Foo Fighters in Seattle, WA after the 1994 death of Nirvana's lead singer Kurt Cobain and subsequent breakup of that band. Grohl's new group included Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear, and several members of another recently dissolved band, Sunny Day Real Estate. The band started out performing in Portland, OR, and soon gained widespread popularity.
The Foo Fighters have won six Grammy Awards, including three for Best Rock Album and two for Best Hard Rock Performance.
Recent performances by band members include a solo U.S. tour by drummer Taylor Hawkins in April and May of 2010. The band is expected to begin recording its seventh studio album in September 2010, for release in 2011.
NFL, Foo Fighters tickets on sale this weekend
With this week seeing the start of preseason football, tickets for two more NFL teams, as well as tickets for some new and old rockers, are on sale throughout the weekend ending August 15 as compiled by TicketNews.
Starting off the week’s onsales are tickets for Wicked at the Peoria Civic Center – Theatre in Peoria, IL. The production is scheduled to run through the end of October.
Foo Fighters tour hits West Coast for fall dates
Foo Fighters have expanded their late year North American tour to include the West Coast. Eleven new dates have been added for this fall, beginning with an October 9 event at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO.
Highlights include shows on October 13 at The Forum in Inglewood, CA; October 19 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA; and October 25 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC. The final show on the current calendar is November 14 at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

Foo Fighters tour U.S., Canada with late summer concerts
Foo Fighters will follow this month's spring U.S. tour with a fresh round of late summer concerts across North America.
The band's summer calendar is largely dominated by European concert and festival appearances. But Dave Grohl and company will take a break from their overseas outing for two shows in Canada on August 9 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON, and August 10 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, QC.
Foo Fighters tour adds U.S. dates with Motörhead, Biffy Clyro
Foo Fighters are ramping up for a late spring tour of the United States with supporting acts Motörhead and Biffy Clyro. The venture's first five concert dates were just announced, with the calendar opening May 17 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK.
The present five-city routing extends through May 26 at Adams Center in Missoula, MT, though additional dates are expected. Other stops are set for May 18 at Verizon Center in Little Rock, AR; May 20 at FedEx Forum in Memphis, TN; and May 23 at Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, IA.
Celine Dion, Foo Fighters among performers at Grammy concert
Five-time Grammy winner Celine Dion, six-time Grammy winner the Foo Fighters, 14-time Grammy winner B. B. King, five-time Grammy winner John Mayer and Taylor Swift, who received a nomination last year, are the first performers announced for "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live: Countdown To Music's Biggest Night," airing live on December 3 at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
The one-hour special also will celebrate the grand opening of the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live. Additional performers and presenters will be announced shortly. Tickets to the live event will be available to the public beginning October 27; proceeds will benefit the Grammy Museum.
Foo Fighters reschedule tour dates
In keeping with Dave Grohl's doctor's orders, Foo Fighters have rescheduled their two sold out shows at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO originally scheduled for July 14-15; the concerts have been rescheduled for September 8-9. Tickets for the July 14 show will be honored for the September 8 date, and tickets for the July 15 show will be honored for September 9th. Show times will remain the same. Refunds for each show will be available at the original point of purchase until the new respective dates.
"As much as it kills us to postpone shows," Grohl said on a post on the group's website, "I'm in no shape to deliver the kind of balls-out performances that you guys deserve. We're already looking forward to September when we can make it up to everyone ten times over. It's gonna be great."
Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters at VH1 honors
Pearl Jam, Tenacious D featuring Jack Black and Kyle Gass, Foo Fighters, Incubus and The Flaming Lips will perform at the third annual "VH1 Rock Honors" on July 12. The event will be in Los Angeles, CA at the Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA, and this year's celebration will honor The Who with an appearance by Rainn Wilson. The Who will also perform at the end of the show.
As a result of The Who's revolutionary and era-defining influence on rock music, this will be the first "VH1 Rock Honors" that salutes just one band. The Who's monumental legacy will be celebrated with a two-hour tribute that will salute the music and the lasting impact of this groundbreaking band. The influence of The Who will be felt through spoken tributes, filmed packages and performances by the artists listed above as well as the legends themselves.
Foo Fighters, Oasis headline festival
Foo Fighters and Oasis will headline the third annual Virgin Festival Toronto Sept. 6-7. Bloc Party, Paul Weller, Stereophonics, Wintersleep, Spiritualized, The Weakerthans, Constantines and The Pigeon Detectives are also on the bill.
Foo Fighters will close the show on Sept. 6, marking their first Toronto performance since their 2006 Air Canada Centre show, which sold out in just an hour; Oasis will close the festival on Sept. 7.
