Janet Jackson


Janet Jackson is an American pop singer, and the youngest sibling in the famous Jackson family, which also includes brother Michael Jackson. She has released a total of 10 albums, including her 1982 self-titled debut and most recent endeavor, 2008's "Discipline." Throughout her career, Jackson has tried to set herself apart from her famous brothers with her status as a sex symbol and frequent forays into acting. While she remains an iconic figure in American pop and R&B music, her status as a touring act has steadily declined since her heyday in the '80s and early '90s. Her most recent arena tour in 2008 and was not well received by critics, though it initially received media hype for being her first world tour in about seven years. The entire tour was plagued slow ticket sales and the end of the tour was marred by a serious of cancellations due to illness that many in the press interpreted as a reaction on Jackson's part to disappointing sales in an increasing number of North American markets.

Though her last North American tour didn't fare so well, Janet Jackson is ready to give it another go with a fresh batch of spring concert dates for her new tour, Number Ones, Up Close and Personal.

When the '80s music icon hits the circuit in March, she'll be routed through more intimate venues than the arenas she booked for the dud 2008 Rock Witchu Tour. But Jackson will also keep the setlist familiar, selecting songs exclusively from her 2009 compilation of number one hits.

Janet Jackson tour postpones Japanese dates due to economy

Japan will have to wait for Janet Jackson’s Rock Witchu tour until later this year.

The Grammy winning singer was scheduled to perform five shows from February 14-22, but the upcoming tour has been postponed "due to the impact of economic crisis," according to her Japanese promoter, Kyodo Yokohama.

It turns out that Janet Jackson will not reschedule her previously postponed concerts due to conflicts in her schedule, according to a post on her Web site. The seven affected cities include Montreal, QC; Boston, MA; Philadelphia, PA; Greensboro, NC; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Uncasville, CT; and Syracuse, NY.

Jackson wound up performing only two of her eight postponed shows. Her October 28 concert in Auburn Hills, MI, was rescheduled from September 27, and her November 1 show in New York City, which turned out to be the last concert on the tour, was rescheduled from October 16.

LL Cool J drops out of Janet Jackson tour

Janet Jackson just can not get a break on her first North American tour in seven years.

First, she had to cancel a string of nine concerts because of migraine-associated vertigo that causes dizziness and imbalance. Now, she lost her opening act. Rapper LL Cool J pulled out of the tour, citing unspecified "scheduling conflicts." The announcement came in an October 27 Associated Press report based upon a statement from his publicist, and LL Cool J was a no show at the October 22 concert in Dallas, TX. No replacement has been named as of yet.

Janet Jackson has finally revealed what ailed her in her eight concert cancellations: bouts of migraine-associated vertigo. The symptoms of vertigo include dizziness and imbalance.

Now with the cat out of the bag in regards to her mystery illness, Jackson plans to resume her first tour in seven years on October 15 at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. The Rock Witchu Tour still has shows booked in Atlanta, GA; Houston, TX; Dallas, TX; New York, NY; and East Rutherford, NJ.

Janet Jackson tour axes two more shows as illness continues

Janet Jackson's October 11 concert at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, was supposed to be her comeback show after a string of postponements because of an undisclosed illness. But one day after the announcement of her return came news of yet another postponed show, now numbering seven, since she became ill during a soundcheck in Montreal on September 29.

Additionally, Jackson was scheduled to hit the stage at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, NY, on October 13, but the performance was postponed due to doctor's orders, according to a post on the venue's Web site. Tickets will be honored at a rescheduled date to be announced soon.

Janet Jackson tour returns to the road after multiple cancellations

After cancelling six shows for health reasons, Janet Jackson returns to her Rock Witchu tour October 11 in Uncasville, CT, at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

"Janet, who has been under her doctor’s care and recuperating over the last week, is excited about getting back on the road and again being able to share with her fans what she feels is one of her best stage shows ever," concert promoter Live Nation said in a statement.

Janet Jackson tour date cancellations and postponements continue

Having already cancelled four concerts recently, Janet Jackson has postponed three more shows because of an undisclosed illness. Affected shows are October 4 in Greensboro, NC; October 5 in Atlanta, GA; and October 7in Fort Lauderdale, FL. All refunds are available at the point of purchase, but ticket holders have been advised that tickets can be used for rescheduled shows.

Jackson tried to perform at Greensboro after arriving at the city, but a local doctor advised her not to perform until she was fully recovered from her illness. Her next scheduled show is October 11 at the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, CT.

Janet Jackson tour cancels more shows due to illness

After postponing her September 27 show at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan due to "production constraints," Janet Jackson recently cancelled three more shows due to health reasons.

According to published reports, she was hospitalized at Royal Victoria Hospital on September 29 following the sound check and shortly before her concert at the Bell Centre in Montreal, QC. Jackson was discharged after two hours, but her first show in Montreal in seven years was scratched. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.
