Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake got his start in show business early on, first as a contestant on “Star Search” and later as one of the Mouseketeers on “The Mickey Mouse Club.” However, his big break into stardom came in 1998, when the boy band ‘N Sync (of which he was a member) released its first album, *NSYNC. After producing two more successful albums (which were the two fastest-selling albums of all time), the group decided to take a break in 2002. Timberlake then struck out on a solo career, releasing his album “Justified” in August of the same year.

Since then, he has continued his success in the music business, releasing his second solo album, “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” in 2006. He has also ventured into other areas: he has co-owned three restaurants, launched a career in acting (voicing the character of Artie Pendragon in “Shrek the Third” and appearing in “Black Snake Moan,” among other things), and created his own fashion and record labels.

Justin Timberlake and The Police in Hot Pursuit of Top Spot

Concert Rankings See Dramatic Moves in Classic Rockstar Style

The Police Concerts Selling HOTBy Stacey Willets

Whether you’re looking for Jersey Boys or the Cowboys, we’ve got all the hot theatre, sports, and concert events in TicketNews.com’s exclusive weekly Top Tens. Read on for a look at this week’s best sellers.

It’s time to face the music; concerts occupy a smaller share of the Top Events chart this week. Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, and Céline Dion find themselves dispatched by pro football. The sole survivor from last week’s playlist is Dave Matthews Band, who drops one spot to number eight. With The Police rejoining the rankings in the number ten spot, concert events drum up only a pair of top positions, the same number of events as theatre. The potent mix of MLB and NFL leaves the chart saturated with sports. The NFL presence expands from the lone Cowboys to include the Seattle Seahawks, who debut at number two and the Denver Broncos, who debut at number nine. The heart of the chart consists of a cluster of MLB teams. The Boston Red Sox take number four this week, the Chicago Cubs advance to number five, and the New York Yankees round out the trio at six.

A record-tying homerun by Barry Bonds doesn’t spare Major League Baseball from slowly being squeezed out of the sports rankings by the NFL. America’s pastime is reduced to a hold of four positions on the Top Sports chart. The Boston Red Sox spend another week at number two, the Chicago Cubs take number three, the New York Yankees appear at four, and the Detroit Tigers drop to ten . . .

Justin Timberlake, Rod Stewart and The Police Rank As Years Top Tours

By Alfred Branch, Jr.

Concert promoters and ticket brokers still think Rod Stewart is sexy.

With CD sales slowing, more artists are looking at touring to generate revenue, and the driving force continues to be more established acts. Five of Pollstar’s top 10 highest-grossing tours so far this year are older acts, such as Stewart, Eric Clapton and the Police. Stewart was followed in the top three by Justin Timberlake and the Police, who are expected to dominate the year-end totals because most of their shows are in stadiums and are scheduled for the second half of the year.

In Stewart’s case, the 62-year-old British superstar is laying claim to the highest grossing U.S. tour at the halfway point by amassing $48.1 million, according to Pollstar. Average ticket prices for his shows was $76.93. . .
