Lauryn Hill is an American musician who got her start as a member of the Fugees in the 1990s. She broke out into a solo career in 1998, when she released “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” At the 1999 Grammys, Hill was nominated for an unprecedented ten awards, a feat that had never before been accomplished by a female artist. She went on to win five Grammys, including Album of the Year.
In the following years, Hill tried her hand at acting and several other endeavors. She became more and more dissatisfied with the music industry, and by 2000 she had begun a self-imposed exile, refusing to give interviews, watch TV or listen to music. In 2004, Hill returned with the Fugees, who broke up again in 2006.
In April 2009, Hill announced plans for a short European tour in July of the same year. However, in June she canceled the entire venture, citing unspecified health reasons.
Lauryn Hill tours intimate venues, adds more winter concerts
Rallying musician Lauryn Hill will spend more time touring in early 2011 than originally expected. The long-dormant hip-hop and R&B star will hit the North American circuit hard in the New Year with nearly 20 concerts slated for the coming weeks.
The singer and songwriter has already completed three mid-December shows, and the next is set for December 27 at Highline Ballroom in New York, NY. Hill's calendar keeps her in the Big Apple for six total shows as she venue-hops across town, concluding her NYC run with a January 3-5 stand at the Blue Note.
Lauryn Hill tour plots scattered U.S. concerts through New Year
Scattered concert dates and one festival appearance have cropped up on the calendar of reclusive singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill.
The former leading lady of R&B and hip-hop, who fell out of the public eye in recent years, began a comeback of sorts this year that included four summer dates with the Rock the Bells festival. Now Hill appears poised to follow the comeback trail into 2011 with a growing series of shows booked through the New Year.
Lauryn Hill tour cancels all summer plans in Europe
Grammy winning R&B/hip-hop star and former Fugees frontwoman Lauryn Hill has called off her entire European tour, citing unspecified health issues, according to the Associated Press.
The summer trek would have been her comeback tour and marked her return to Europe after a two year absence since she was booed off a London stage for showing up two hours late.
Lauryn Hill tour returns to world circuit with summer dates in Europe
Former Fugees singer and solo artist Lauryn Hill is in line to hit the European tour circuit this summer after years of on-again, off-again hiatus. Most dates on Hill's 2009 itinerary remain under wraps, but she is a confirmed performer at two jazz festivals in July.
The first date on Hill's calendar is a July 11 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival at Stravinski Auditorium in Montreux, Switzerland. However, the long-dormant recording artist has also snagged a headline spot at this year's Stockholm Jazz Festival on July 18 in Stockholm, Sweden.
