Madonna

Besides being one of the most influential recording artists of the past two decades, Madonna has also become a powerful force in the ticket industry. Since her debut in the early 1980s, the Queen of Pop has come to generate record-breaking sales around the world, making her a favorite on both the primary and secondary markets. Her most recent Sticky & Sweet Tour ended late in 2008 after nearly 60 concerts with a combined audience of 2.35 million people and total gross of more than $280 million. Her 2006 Confessions Tour was also a record-breaker at the time, grossing $193.7 million. Because of her continued popularity and audience draw, Madonna's concerts often feature prominently in TicketNews's weekly Top Events Rankings.

Delays in Madonna's MDNA tour

By Kathryn Baker

It's a big year for the Material Girl — Madonna recently released a brand new album, "MDNA", and is about to embark on world tour set to begin at the end of May. However, after the April 26 announcement from promoters Live Nation and Shuki Weiss stating that the tour would be delayed two days, critics were left wondering if Madonna's big year is in jeopardy.

According to USA Today the promoters explained that the change of schedule was in response to "production delays." As a result, the tour originally set to begin on May 29 in Tel Aviv, Israel, will be postponed until May 31. The delay does not affect any previous ticket sales as all tickets that were sold for the May 29 concert will be honored at the new May 31 date.

Ontario Attorney General defends Live Nation's resale of Madonna tickets

By Arragon Perrone

Ontario's Ministry of the Attorney General dismissed concerns that Live Nation Entertainment violated the province's anti-scalping laws when it sold tickets for Madonna's September 10, 2012 concert in Ottawa. Tickets to the performance in ScotiaBank Place went on sale directly through Live Nation on February 14, 2012 and were sold out within 21 minutes, the fastest sellout in the venue's history. Tickets remained available on a Live Nation subsidiary called VIPNation.com, however, at an inflated price that was often hundreds of dollars above face value.

According to Ontario's Ticket Speculation Act of 1990, reselling tickets above their face value is forbidden.

Springsteen plays second-fiddle to Madonna, Van Halen

By Jeremy Katz

The "Boss" may have to change his moniker to "Vice Boss" in 2012. Ticket sales for Bruce Springsteen's Wrecking Ball Tour have been strong in 2012, as he sold the second-most tickets in gross revenue in both January and February according to data from Ticket Liquidator, the second-largest ticket marketplace on the secondary market. He can't seem to secure the top spot, however. In January, it was Van Halen's 2012 reunion tour leading the pack in ticket sales revenue. In February, it was Madonna and her 2012 MDNA Tour outselling Springsteen.

In January, Van Halen's 2012 reunion tour was the top-selling event at Ticket Liquidator. Van Halen fans flocked to see David Lee Roth and Eddie, Alex, and Wolfgang Van Halen reunite on stage with fans shelling out an average of $175 per ticket. Bruce Springsteen, despite ticket prices that averaged $238, finished second in overall revenue to the legendary rock group by more than 25 percent. Finishing a close third behind Springsteen was Drake and his Drizzy Drake tour, with gross ticket revenues only 5 percent behind Springsteen. Tickets for Drake averaged $159, the cheapest out of the three top-selling artists.
