The 12,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena is located in the Mohegan Sun casino and resort in Uncasville, CT. It is the only casino in the U.S. that is home to a major professional sports team, the WNBA's Connecticut Sun women's basketball team. The Sun, which over the years has had former UConn players on its roster, began playing games there in 2003, in part because sports betting is strictly prohibited in the casino.
The arena, which drops in capacity when the Sun is playing, opened in 2001 and also holds 30,000-square feet of expandable exhibition space.
Since its opening, the arena has held concerts by a variety of major acts, such as R.E.M., Britney Spears, Aerosmith, Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Eric Clapton, Van Halen and The Eagles. In addition, the facility has also hosted American Kennel Club events and Ultimate Fighting Championship matches.
