Natalie Cole is an award winning R&B and jazz vocalist, the daughter of the late noted performer Nat King Cole. The younger Cole made her own musical debut in the mid-1970s, but succumbed to a drug addiction that sidelined her for a few years in the early '80s. Over the course of her career, she has released nearly 30 studio and compilation albums, of which many of the earlier releases achieved Gold or Platinum status. To date, her best-selling and most popular work has been 1991's "Unforgettable...With Love," mainly comprised of covers of her father's songs. In 2008, Cole was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, possibly as a result of her earlier drug abuse. She continued touring, even undergoing dialysis on the road, until receiving a kidney transplant in 2009. Cole's national concerts are regularly booked for Performing Arts Centers across the U.S., though she also books overseas engagements.
Natalie Cole tour postpones summer concerts following kidney transplant
R&B and jazz vocalist Natalie Cole is recovering after receiving a kidney transplant on Tuesday, May 19. The procedure took place at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and Cole is now "resting comfortably," according to a statement from her publicist.
The performer was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in February 2008 and had been undergoing dialysis several times a week ever since September. However, she continued to perform around the world, often visiting international hospitals to stay current with her treatment while on the road.
Natalie Cole tour rebounds in 2009 with February performances
Singer Natalie Cole was forced to cancel a string of concerts earlier this year due to complications in her treatment for Hepatitis C. But as she continues on the road to recovery, the preeminent performer has a handful of upcoming concerts, as well as a February run of shows.
Cole begins a seven-show Southern U.S. jaunt on February 13 at Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, FL, and wraps the run February 21 at Cumberland County Civic Center in Fayetteville, NC. The singer also has two dates booked for mid-January, first performing at Spotlight 29 in Coachella, CA, on January 10, followed by a concert at Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, NV, on January 16.
Natalie Cole tour cancels October concerts due to medical treatment
R&B/jazz singer Natalie Cole has cancelled all of her October concerts, totaling 11 shows, following her September 12 hospitalization for Hepatitis C.
The tour has been put on hold while she recuperates from side-effects from her medication and gains strength. In July Cole said she was suffering from hepatitis C, a liver disease spread through contact with infected blood, most likely caused by her drug use years ago.
Natalie Cole remains 'unforgettable' with new tour
Eight-time Grammy Award winning R&B singer Natalie Cole will hit the road in October for 11 concerts, starting on October 7 in Indiana, PA, and wrapping on October 23 in Windsor, ONT. Cole's new album, "Still Unforgettable," a 14-song collection of American pop standards, drops on September 9.
The album has been a long time in the making for Cole. It's a follow up to her 1991 album "Unforgettable...With Love" that included a studio created duet with her late father Nat King Cole on the title tack. The album spent five weeks at No. 1 on the pop charts, earned five Grammy awards (including Song, Record and Album of the Year) and sold more than 14 million copies worldwide.
