New York Giants

The New York Giants were formed in 1925 when owner Tim Mara founded the team with only a $500 investment. While the team has had a turbulent financial history, their football success has been unquestioned. The team has won seven league championships, four NFL Championships prior to the Super Bowl era and three Super Bowls the latest coming in 2007.

Since 1976, the Giants have played in Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, but in 2007, the team broke ground on a new state-of-the-art stadium located right next door. The stadium was built as a 50/50 partnership with co-inhabitant New York Jets, who have shared Giants Stadium since 1984. Controversy has surrounded the new Personal Seat Policy that the Giants have put into place, as many fans have complained that they can no longer afford season tickets.

New York Giants defend policy of selling single-game ticket without PSLs

By Alfred Branch Jr.

The New York Giants, long one of the NFL's more reliable teams when it comes to ticket sales, this week found itself in the middle of a public relations fumble when it announced its intention to begin selling single-game tickets to all eight home games this season in the new Meadowlands Stadium.

Over the years, the team has sold single-game tickets, but this season the situation is different because the team had required fans purchase personal seat licenses (PSLs) in order to be allowed to then buy tickets.

Bruce Springsteen, New York Giants tickets push Giants Stadium to number one venue

By Kelly McWilliams

After a few weeks of slowly climbing in the rankings, Giants Stadium in Rutherford, NJ, finally took over the top slot in TicketNews’s exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, September 27. The Stadium is home to the NFL’s New York Giants (at number four in this week’s Top Sports Events rankings) and New York Jets, who just completed week three of their current season. The real boost to the Stadium’s numbers, however, may have come from this week’s much-anticipated five-date appearance by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (at number three in this week’s Top Concert Events rankings) which closes out the final musical roster for the Stadium before it shuts its gates at the end of the NFL season. Giants Stadium power scored a 3.27 this week.

New York Giants tickets and PSLs for 2010 are still available

In March, the NFL's New York Giants announced that it had "sold all [one-time] personal seat licenses (PSLs) for non-club seats in the Giants' new stadium in the Meadowlands." Those non-club PSLs sold for a low of $1,000 for the Terraces to a high of $20,000 for the Field Levels, with the individual game-tickets prices ranging from $85 to $160.

The press release went on to say, "The only PSLs remaining for purchase are a limited number of seats in the three club areas – Coach's Club, Mezzanine Club A and Mezzanine Club B." The PSL price for the Coach's Club is $20,000, while the PSL for Mezzanine Club A is $12,500 and Club B is $7,500.

New York Giants and Jets sued by season ticket holder over PSLs

By Rick Roso

New York Giants and Jets football fan Harold Oshinsky has filed suit against both teams, claiming they are illegally forcing thousands of season-ticket holders to buy personal seat licenses (PSLs) to finance the teams' new $1.6 billion stadium. Oshinsky has had season tickets to both teams for more than 25 years, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The lawsuit was filed March 16 in federal court in Newark, NJ, by Oshinsky's counsel, Andrew Freidman of Glancy Binkow & Goldberg in New York. Freidman told TicketNews the basis of the suit is a violation of competition law by requiring at least 45,000 season-ticket holders to make one-time payments of $1,000 to $25,000 (based on seat location) for the permanent right to buy future season tickets. Oshinsky requested not to be interviewed.
