Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots (also known as STP) officially came into being in 1992, after the group’s original members tried out several other names. The band’s first album, “Core,” attained immediate success, reaching 8x platinum in the U.S. Over the next decade, STP produced four more studio albums, three of which reached at least platinum status. However, the group’s journey was anything but smooth; frontman Scott Weiland moved in and out of rehab, resulting in the cancellation of concert dates and even whole tours.

Stone Temple Pilots broke up in 2003, partly due to conflict over Weiland’s drug problem. However, STP reunited in 2008, and a compilation album simply titled “Buy This” was released, although it didn’t chart on the Billboard 200. The group launched a massive, six-month reunion tour in 2008, and they are planning a tour in late 2009 to support the release of their upcoming album.

After postponing a September 21 show in El Paso, TX, alt-rock crew Stone Temple Pilots announced sweeping changes to its fall tour itinerary. The band is now on a break that stretches up to October 8, when its U.S. tour will resume at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, FL.

Eleven markets, including El Paso, have been affected by the late-breaking changes. Only four dates have been rescheduled so far, while the remaining dates (in the South and Midwest) seem to be canned in favor of newer gigs on the West Coast and in Canada.

Now with original lead singer Scott Weiland officially back in the fold, Stone Temple Pilots (STP) have ramped up their extensive summer tour, which starts May 17 in Columbus, OH with bookings through August. Following the summer tour, the band is not scheduled to perform again until October 24 at the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans, LA, and they expect to book more shows for November.

STP formed in 1992 and disbanded after a 2001 tour. Weiland later joined Velvet Revolver, and in avery acrimonious public split, left the supergroup last month to rejoin STP. Weiland has also battled the law resulting in incarceration, most recently for DUI for the second time, which must be served before May 28.
