The TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA is the home of the defending World Champion Boston Celtics basketball team, and the Boston Bruins hockey team. Opened in September 1995, the Garden has undergone several name changes, and will be known as the TD Garden beginning in July 2009.
The Garden replaced the old Boston Garden, and was built for $160 million. Other major sporting events held in the facility include the annual college hockey "Beanpot" tournament, which features Harvard, Northeastern, Boston University and Boston College, the Boston Blazers indoor lacrosse team.
In addition to sports, the Garden also hosts major popular music concerts by the likes of U2, Celine Dion and Bruce Springsteen.
Boston Celtics, Bruins playoff tickets help TD Banknorth Garden into Top Venues slot
TicketNews has released its exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, May 3, and in the midst of heavy playoff action, TD Banknorth Garden takes top honors this week. Hometown favorites the Boston Celtics have made it to Eastern Conference semifinal play against the Orlando Magic, with the Magic taking a 1-0 lead in the series. Game two of the semifinals is scheduled for May 6 at the Garden. The Boston Bruins are also in Eastern Conference semifinal play against the Carolina Hurricanes, in a playoff series that makes it to number six this week in TicketNews’s Top Sports Events rankings. The Bruins are even with the Hurricanes at 1-1, with the next game scheduled for May 6 at Carolina. The Garden also will see two July dates on the Jonas Brothers tour, which holds at number four in this week’s Top Concert Events rankings. TD Banknorth Garden finishes with a power score of 2.85.
Debuting at number two this week is the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO. The venue is hosting its Denver Nuggets in Western Conference semifinal play against the Dallas Mavericks. The Nuggets lead 1-0 in a series that hits at number three in this week’s Top Sports Events rankings. Game two will be played tonight, May 5, at the Pepsi Center. In concerts, the Center has an impressive roster up for the coming weeks, with dates scheduled for The Dead, the Jonas Brothers, and Fleetwood Mac, all finishing in the top ten of this week’s Top Concert Events rankings. The Pepsi Center power scores a 2.27 this week.
TD Banknorth Garden to be renamed TD Garden
Effective July, the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA, will be renamed TD Garden. The arena's new name will reflect the rebranding of TD Banknorth's New England operations to TD Bank.
The 19,600-seat venue is the home of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association, as well as concerts and family shows.
Jonas Brothers, Bruce Springsteen ticket sales help TD Banknorth Garden
According to Ticketnews’s exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, March 29, TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA makes a grand resurgence, shooting up nine slots from its tenth place finish last week to become the number one venue. Fueling the Garden’s rise to the top is a second date added to the wildly popular Jonas Brothers stop in July, as well as two April performances by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The Garden is also home to the legendary Boston Celtics, at number nine this week in Ticketnews’s Top Sports Events rankings. TD Banknorth Garden has a power score of 3.30.
The new Yankee Stadium moves up three to the number two spot this week. Power scoring a 3.15, the new home to the New York Yankees is gearing up for its first exhibition games later this week and the team’s home opener against the Cleveland Indians on April 16. Also showing upward mobility this week is the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA. Up six to the number three slot and power scoring a 2.99, the Center will host a number of top selling acts this season, including tween favorites the Jonas Brothers, Andrea Bocelli and the WWE tour, currently at number three in TicketNews’s Top Sports Events rankings.
Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac help TD Banknorth Garden become top venue
After weeks of strong showings, TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA finally takes the number one spot in TicketNews's exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, February 8. The Garden’s success is largely due to its impressive roster of upcoming shows, including Fleetwood Mac, Britney Spears, and Bruce Springsteen, as well as to the current season of Boston Celtics basketball. The Garden has a power score this week of 3.43.
Hanging on to the number two slot this week is New York's Madison Square Garden (MSG). Power scoring a 3.03, the home of the New York Knicks also sees Fleetwood Mac in the coming weeks, as well as the ever popular Jimmy Buffett.
