The Dead is the current incarnation of the iconic jam band the Grateful Dead, fronted by Jerry Garcia from 1965 up until his death in 1995. The band is composed of the surviving original members of the Grateful Dead: Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann.
After Garcia's death, the band's remaining members temporarily toured under the moniker The Other Ones before officially switching their name to The Dead. Under the new title, they toured in 2003 and 2004 before splitting to pursue various side projects. RatDog is the primary solo band for Weir, while Lesh frequently performs with his project, Phil Lesh and Friends.
The Dead reformed in 2008 to perform several benefit events for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama. The special concerts fueled speculation about an official reunion, which was confirmed for spring and summer 2009. The Dead remains a popular draw among core audience, called "Deadheads," with fans often seeking tickets to multiple concerts per tour.

The Dead Weather tour maps summer concerts for 'Sea of Cowards'
The Dead Weather formed only a year ago, but the collaborative quartet will prove its gusto for playing together -- both in the studio and live -- with the upcoming release of its second album and a summer filled with headline shows.
Jack White's latest rock conglomerate has 16 concerts planned for the United States and Canada. Besides a June 12 festival set at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN, the group has booked the majority of its itinerary from July 13 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, through August 3 at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY.

The latest news from Brooks & Dunn and Def Leppard are part of the daily tour recap for August 11, as compiled by TicketNews.
Country duo Brooks & Dunn dropped a bombshell early this week as the pair announced its plans to split after a final 2010 tour. Dates for the venture are yet to be revealed, as is the extent of the tour, which follows Brooks & Dunn's current Cowboy Town 2009 Tour.
Bob Weir & RatDog tour moves from East to West this summer
It has only been a couple weeks since The Dead completed their long-awaited spring tour on May 16 in Quincy, WA. But one of the band's founding members and his primary band, Bob Weir & RatDog, are already prepared to counter that run with a 24-city tour of their own this summer.
The trek is split into Summer East and Summer West tour legs, which will focus primarily on the East and West Coasts, respectively. The first leg of the tour kicks off July 5 at Lifestyle Communities Pavilion in Columbus, OH, and concludes July 25 at the Gathering of the Vibes Festival in Bridgeport, CT. The next concert circuit crosses the U.S. for an August 21 concert at Britt Pavilion in Jacksonville, OR, and ends with a September 6 performance at Pozo Saloon in Pozo, CA.
The Dead Weather tour makes North American debut with 'Horehound'
In his various projects over the years, from The White Stripes to The Raconteurs, eclectic singer-songwriter Jack White has been a front-and-center leader. But when his latest effort, The Dead Weather, makes its national touring debut this summer, White will be taking a backseat.
Though he is the de facto leader of the band, which announced its formation earlier this year, White is stepping away from the mic and putting down his guitar in favor of the drums. Fans of White's previous musical incarnations can catch him in his new role when the Dead Weather tour launches July 13-14 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.

Bruce Springsteen, The Dead tickets selling cheap as both tours plummet on the secondary market
As Ticketmaster Entertainment and New York Sen. Charles Schumer both complain about the evils of secondary ticket market, a little known fact has emerged: Two of the bigger tours of the year are experiencing plummeting ticket prices on the secondary market, creating bargain conditions for fans.
Bruce Springsteen tickets for several of his recent and upcoming shows are selling for far less on the secondary market – including tickets to see The Boss Wednesday night, April 22, in Boston, MA – than what tickets are selling for at face value. The same can be said for tickets to see The Dead.
The Dead tour bypasses scalpers, puts prime tickets up for auction
With their long-awaited Spring Fling Tour just a few weeks away, The Dead are hoping to edge out ticket scalpers when it comes to the best seats in the house.

The first five center rows for each show will be up for grabs, along with memorabilia and meet-and-greet packages.
