Wrigley Field

Built in 1914, Chicago's Wrigley Field is one of Major League Baseball's most-famous stadiums. The ballpark has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916, and was named for William Wrigley, Jr., of the chewing gum company, 10 years later (it was known as Cubs Park before that and Weeghman Park prior to that).

The ballpark was also home to Chicago Bears football team for nearly 50 years until 1970, and on January 1, 2009, the stadium hosted the National Hockey League's annual "Winter Classic" game, which was played between two Original Six teams, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings. The stadium also hosts popular music concerts each year.

One of the unique attributes to the stadium, besides its ivy covered walls in the outfield, are the rooftop seats, balconies and viewing areas above buildings across the street. The rooftop seats are not owned by the team or the park, but their owners have established deals with the Cubs to share a portion of ticket revenue.

Wrigley Field and Yankee Stadium to host college football games

By Jerry Beach

Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field don't have much in common. For one thing, Yankee Stadium has played host to more World Series in two years (one) than Wrigley has in 94 years.

But, on Saturday, November 20, the two facilities will become the latest baseball stadiums to play host to a non-baseball event when they each host college football games. Wrigley Field will be the site of a Big 10 battle between Northwestern and Illinois at 3:30 while Notre Dame will oppose Army at 7 at Yankee Stadium.

Dave Matthews Band tour to end 2010 season with Wrigley Field concerts

By Allison Reitz

Dave Matthews Band plans to take a hiatus from touring in 2011, but the alternative jam band will end this season's round of touring on a high note. Fronted by namesake musician Dave Matthews, the hard-touring group officially announced its plans to close its summer 2010 tour at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL.

The summer touring titan has scheduled back-to-back ballpark concerts on September 17-18 at the historic home of the Chicago Cubs. The shows will be DMB's last before entering a year-long touring hiatus -- it's first major break from the road in 20 years.

NHL plans outdoor game at famed Wrigley Field

By Alfred Branch Jr.

Building on January's highly rated "Winter Classic" game in Buffalo, NY, the National Hockey League (NHL) is planning on staging another outdoor game on New Year's Day, this time in Chicago at Wrigley Field between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings.

The two hockey teams are long-time Western Conference/Central Division rivals, and two of the NHL's Original Six teams, and according to the Chicago Tribune newspaper, tickets to the game could be among the most sought-after for a regular season game from any of Chicago's sports teams.
