Veteran rock frontman Robert Plant continues to pour his creative energy into the Band of Joy. With an April tour leg under way, the singer-songwriter has already unveiled a festival-heavy summer tour leg with the backing group.
The North American routing will hit 11 cities during the span of one month. The summer trek begins June 8 at Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego, CA, and ends June 25 at the Borgata Event Center in Atlantic City, NJ.
Festivals comprise a good portion of the June itinerary. Band of Joy has appearances scheduled at Bonnaroo (June 12), Ravinia Festival (June 16), the Telluride Bluegrass Festival (June 18), and the Ottawa and Montreal Jazz Festivals (June 23 and 24, respectively).
Public ticket sales for the summer jaunt are scattered over the first few weeks of April. Tickets to the opening night in San Diego go on sale April 15 with $55 to $85 face values, according to Ticketmaster.com. Other summer concerts have tickets priced anywhere from $35, as in St. Louis, up to $125 for premium seats in Atlantic City.
Plant launched his debut tour with the Band of Joy in June 2010, following that outing with an early 2011 leg in January and February.
The next performance for Plant and the Band of Joy is tonight, April 11, at Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee, WI. The group’s on-going spring leg wraps with engagements on April 29 at Jazz Fest in New Orleans, LA, and May 1 at MerleFest in Wilkesboro, NC.
Plant and Band of Joy released an eponymous debut record in September 2010. The dozen-track effort received largely positive reviews from critics and opened at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
