The giant, inflated pig that floated away after Roger Waters’s opening set at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA on April 27, was found a few miles away in La Quinta, CA, shredded and strewn over two residential properties.
The $10,000 award and four festival tickets for life the event’s organizers offered for the return of the pig will reportedly be shared by the two landowners.
Waters displayed the pig during his set to show his support of Sen. Barack Obama for president. Written on the pig were the words “Don’t be led to the slaughter” and a cartoon of Uncle Sam holding two bloody cleavers. The other side read “Fear builds walls” and the underside read “Obama” with a checked ballot box for Democratic presidential hopeful.
This was not the original inflated pig from Pink Floyd’s 1977’s anti-capitalism album “Animals,” which contained the song “Pigs.” Waters was the voice of Pink Floyd before he left the band. There have been many pig replicas over the years that have floated over arenas, fields and stadiums during their concerts.
