Alt-country rocker Ryan Adams and his backing band The Cardinals will hit the road early in 2009 for a solo round of U.S. dates. The trek begins February 20 at Shubert Theater in New Haven, CT, and is currently scheduled to conclude on March 20 at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA.

Highlights for the 16-date run include a February 21 stop at the Orpheum Theater in Boston, MA, a March 4 gig at Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, TX, and a March 16 performance at the Louisville Palace Theatre in Louisville, KY. Tickets are already available for a number of venues on the outing, and the remaining onsales will begin by December 20.

The band is currently completing the tail end of its supporting stint on Oasis’s North American tour. The next show is tonight (December 19) at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ, and the trek ends December 20 at the GMU Patriot Center in Washington, DC. Adams began his run with the Gallagher brothers’ band during their early fall Canadian tour.

Before beginning the U.S. tour next year, Adams and The Cardinals will first complete a six-show jaunt in Australia and New Zealand. The group is touring in support of the late October release “Cardinology.” The album, which peaked on the Billboard 200 at 11 and was listed at No. 14 on Rolling Stone‘s list of the “Top 50 Albums of 2008,” is the fourth official release from Adams and The Cardinals.
