After slipping to the third position last week the Eugene O’Neill Theatre is back on top of TicketNews®‘ exclusive venues rankings for the week ending October 7, 2012, thanks to ticket sales from Broadway’s “The Book of Mormon.”

This week’s rankings saw a significant amount of shifts and debuts largely due to the public onsales of some highly anticipated concerts.

Los Angeles’ Staples Center came in the second spot this week. The venue is home to the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, as well as the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings. Single game tickets for both the Lakers and Clippers have been available for public onsale since September. With the NHL currently in a lockout and no immediate end in sight Kings’ tickets did not help boost the Staples Center from No. 9 to No. 2 this week, that credit is due to pop singer Pink. Pink’s The Truth About Love tour is headed to the Staples Center on February 15, tickets to that performance went on sale Saturday, October 6.

Breaking into the top three this week is the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden. The Garden is host to both Pink and Lady Gaga’s upcoming tours. Tickets for Lady Gaga’s February 23, 2013 Born This Way Ball tour stop at MSG were released on October 5. In addition to Lady Gaga tickets, MSG is likely seeing a bump in score thanks to ticket sales from the New York Knicks who will host their first regular season home game November 2 against the defending champion, the Miami Heat, which is sure to be one of the NBA’s most sought after tickets.

Across town in Brooklyn the Barclays Center is seeing early success after opening doors for its first event on Friday, September 28. Last week the new venue knocked the Eugene O’Neill Theatre out of the top spot thanks to sales from Jay-Z’s eight sold out shows, which wrapped up this past Saturday. The Barclays Center shows no signs of slowing down with two sold out shows from Barbra Streisand lined up for this week.

The Brooklyn Nets single game tickets are also available currently, with their first regular season home game scheduled for November 1 against cross-town rivals the New York Knicks.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s significance among all other venues listed in the Exchange. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales overall.
