In his various projects over the years, from The White Stripes to The Raconteurs, eclectic singer-songwriter Jack White has been a front-and-center leader. But when his latest effort, The Dead Weather, makes its national touring debut this summer, White will be taking a backseat.

Though he is the de facto leader of the band, which announced its formation earlier this year, White is stepping away from the mic and putting down his guitar in favor of the drums. Fans of White’s previous musical incarnations can catch him in his new role when the Dead Weather tour launches July 13-14 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.

The tour will visit nearly 20 North American cities on its main run, which ends August 30 at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco, CA. The Dead Weather will perform two-night stands on July 28-29 at the Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL, and August 22-23 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC.

Ticket presales for the summer tour begin today, May 13. Public on-sales for the band’s only international dates — June 24 in London and June 29 in Paris — begin May 15.

A one-off warm-up show precedes the tour on June 11 at City Block in Louisville, KY. The band will also regroup on the road later this year for an October 4 appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, TX.

The Dead Weather is composed of White, his Raconteurs bandmate and bassist Jack Lawrence, and Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita, with The Kills’ Alison Mosshart stepping in on vocals. The quartet’s debut album, “Horehound,” is scheduled for release on July 13 in Europe and July 14 in North America, coinciding with their opening shows in Washington, DC.
