More woeful stories from the Aerosmith camp and a tour announcement for Brand New are in the mix for the daily tour recap on August 7, as compiled by TicketNews.
It has come to light that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler broke his shoulder and received stitches after falling from the stage during an August 5 concert. As a result of his injuries, tonight’s scheduled concert has been canned and the rest of the tour has been cast in serious doubt.
On a more positive note, punk group Brand New has announced its plans to launch a 40-date tour of North America this fall. Pop-punk band Say Anything has lined up similar plans for 31 concerts that will run from mid-October through the latter part of November.
Today’s strangest news, though, might come from The Pretenders‘ camp. The veteran rock group, headed by militant vegetarian Chrissie Hynde, will perform a couple summer stage events in the metropolitan New York area — with a twist. Instead of the standard barbeque and concert food fare, the Live Nation-operated venues hosting both events will serve up a strictly vegetarian diet for attendees, whether they like it or not.

The Fray is going back to school this fall with a new round of September tour dates for U.S. universities. The pop rock group currently has seven shows booked for the trek, though gaps in the itinerary could easily be filled with more performance dates in the near future: September 8 at Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham, NC; September at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV; September 17 at Tarble Athletic Center in Kenosha, WI; September 21 at Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, PA; September 23 at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT; September 25 at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR; and September 27 at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN.
Mae has extended its upcoming fall 2009 tour plans with eight new concerts in the U.S. The tour begins September 24 at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC. It includes shows on October 5 at White Rabbit in San Antonio, TX; October 8 at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale, AZ; October 9 at Henderson Events Plaza in Henderson, NV; October 31 at Mixtape Café in Grand Rapids, MI; November 3-4 at North Star Bar in Philadelphia, PA; November 7 at School of Rock East in South Hackensack, NJ; and November 8 at Black Cat in Washington, DC, which is now the last date of the national run.
Great Big Sea has filled in its calendar for the coming months with nearly 30 concerts in the U.S. and Canada. The schedule picks up August 19 at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, MA, and wraps November 22 at Mount Baker Theatre in Bellingham, WA. Some of the other scheduled gig stops are set for August 22 at The Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, ON; September 11-12 at Malkin Bowl in Vancouver, BC; September 28 at Empire Theatre in Belleville, ON; October 4 at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO; October 11 at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center in Westhampton Beach, NY; and November 20 at Edmonds Center for the Arts in Edmonds, WA.
The Sounds have two more dates supporting No Doubt’s summer tour before they’re free agents and ready to launch their own North American trek. The group has more than 30 dates confirmed from September 11 in the downtown area of Quebec City, QC, through November 7 at Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL. The trek also includes performances on September 17 at Roseland Ballroom in New York, NY; September 26 at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA; October 7 at the House of Blues in Houston, TX; October 16 at The Marquee in Tempe, AZ; and October 31 at Odgen Theatre in Denver, CO.
The Mountain Goats have organized a 19-date tour of the United States for late 2009. The itinerary begins with a November 4 show at Ladies Literary Club in Grand Rapids, MI, and concludes December 1 at The Bell House in Brooklyn, NY. Touring with a full band and supported on all dates by indie rock’s Final Fantasy, the Mountain Goats will stop along the way for shows on October 10 at Showbox at the Market in Seattle, WA; November 15 at Music Box at Fonda in Los Angeles, CA; November 23 at The Social in Orlando, FL; November 29 at Wilbur Theatre in Boston, MA; and December 1 at Webster Hall in New York, NY.
