Already surrounded by a furor of media hype, rock’s latest supergroup Them Crooked Vultures has announced its first major tour plans. Dates stretch through the end of the year and include an early October run of the U.S. and a mid-December jaunt across the UK.

Them Crooked Vultures features the collaboration of Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, and former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones.

The trio launches its stateside trek on October 1 with a pre-festival party at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q in Austin, TX, before taking the stage the next day for the city’s eighth annual Austin City Limits Music Festival in Zilker Park. The U.S. tour wraps two weeks later on October 14 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.

The U.S. leg will visit eight cities in total, including a single stop in Canada on October 9 for a concert at Sound Academy in Toronto, ON. A six-date UK run follows from December 10 at Pavilions in Plymouth, ENG, through December 17 at HMV Hammersmith Apollo in London, ENG.

Public ticket sales begin in the U.S. on September 5, preceded by the start of UK sales on September 4. Onsale times and details are available on the band’s official Web site.

Them Crooked Vultures are said to be working on their first studio album, though a title and release date have not been confirmed. According to Rolling Stone, a release called “Never Deserved the Future” will drop on October 23, but other published reports have suggested that a completed album is more likely in early 2010.

Despite having a handful of live performances under their belts, the Vultures have been purposely vague when it comes to their publicity. A few teasers have cropped up on YouTube but been limited to instrumental snippets under a minute in length set over illustrated imagery.
