Alternative art rock band Radiohead is making a lot of noise on TicketNews’ exclusive top events charts for the week of April 7 – April 13, 2008. With a slew of onsales for their recently announced two-part North American tour rocketing them up the charts, Radiohead earned the sixth preset – I mean place – position in the Overall Top Events, and second place on the Top Concert Events list.

Also available for your listening pleasure this week were The Eagles, who have returned to the air with their first studio album in 28 years, Long Road Out of Eden. Ticket sales for the associated tour have earned The Eagles seventh place on the top events chart and third in the top concert listings. Other top events on the playlist this week included Jersey Boys in fourth place with a power score of 2.33, the New York Yankees in third with a score of 3.95, the Boston Red Sox in second with a 3.99 power score, and Wicked in first place with a power score of 4.90.

The sports broadcast was all about the Red Sox v. Yankees rivalry this week as the Boston Red Sox came in first and the New York Yankees came in second on the Top Sports Events chart. Though the Red Sox fell to the Yankees 4-1 in Friday’s game, Boston came back to beat New York 4-3 on Saturday and 8-5 on Sunday. The Red Sox also beat the Yankees on the sports chart, with their 12.43 power score besting the Yankees’ 12.31. In the third place position, with a power score three times lower than that of either baseball team, were the New Jersey Devils with a score of 3.93.

The Top Theater Events and Top Broadway Events charts remained rather static as the top seven events on each list remained the same from last week. Wicked retained the chart-topping position on either list, with a power score nearly double that of any of its competitors. On the top theater list, Wicked earned a power score of 33.48 while Jersey Boys called in with a mere 15.85. On the Broadway chart, South Pacific‘s respectable power score of 16.06 was all but drowned out by Wicked’s 30.70. Other noteworthy events included the Lion King, which roared in at fourth place on both charts, the Phantom of the Opera, which placed fifth on the theater list, and the Little Mermaid, which placed fifth on the Broadway chart.

TFL and ATBS for ticketing professionals

The Jonas Brothers headed up the top concert events this week with a power score of 4.53. Radiohead and The Eagles earned scores of 4.08 and 3.93, respectively, and Kenny Chesney came in fourth place with a score of 3.91. In Las Vegas news, Cher is still the dominant personality and earned a power score of 36.36. Bette Midler came in second place with a score of 21.00, and Cirque du Soleil – “O” earned a third place finish with a score of 8.54. Tune in next week to see whether your favorite event will turn up the volume or fade away in next week’s top events rankings.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given event’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category.
