The Queen of Rock & Roll rolled into the third position on TicketNews’s exclusive top events charts for the week of May 5 – May 11, 2008. With an overall power score of 4.99, Tina Turner trailed only top-seeded Neil Diamond, who earned a power score of 8.23, and Wicked, which earned a 5.03.

Cher leapt from thirteenth to sixth place this week with a power score of 1.85, and the Boston Red Sox slid three positions to seventh place with a score of 1.60.

Despite the Red Sox’s slip in the top events rankings, the team retained second place on the Top Sports Events chart with a power score of 6.40. Only the New York Yankees beat out Boston in the rankings, with a power score of 9.93 earning them a first place finish this week. These rankings stand in marked contrast to the AL East standings, where, as of May 12, the Red Sox lead the division with a 24-16 record, and the Yankees are tied for second-to-last place at 19-19. Other top sports teams with strong ticket sales this week included the Chicago Cubs in third place with a 3.77 power score, followed by the Philadelphia Flyers with a 3.76, and the Pittsburgh Penguins in fifth with a score of 2.79. The Penguins currently lead the Flyers two games to none as they compete in the Eastern Conference finals of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

“Wicked,” “Jersey Boys,” South Pacific, and Lion King remained the top four events on both the Top Theater and Top Broadway charts this week. Other top theater events included Phantom of the Opera, which climbed from seventh to fifth place with a power score of 2.46 and Elton John, who’s Red Piano show climbed from ninth place to sixth with a 2.35. TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given event’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category.
