Eclectic and eccentric alt-rock musician Tori Amos will be back behind the piano this summer as she promotes her latest studio album. The Sinful Attraction tour will hit 26 cities in the United States and Canada as it completes a coast-to-coast circuit.
The trek launches July 10 at WaMu Theater in Seattle, WA, and closes August 17 at the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston, MA. Highlights of the trek include a July 13-14 stand at Paramount Theatre in Oakland, CA, a July 21 stop at the Paramount Theatre in Denver, CO, and an August 3 performance at Chicago Theatre in Chicago, IL.
Amos will perform only two shows in Canada during her five-week outing. Those concerts are scheduled near the end of the tour on August 10 at Massey Hall in Toronto, ON, and August 11 at St. Denis Theatre in Montreal, QC.
Ticket on-sale dates and times for the tour have not been announced yet.
The Sinful Attraction tour supports the May 19 release of “Abnormally Attracted to Sin,” Amos’ tenth studio album. The effort will include an accompanying DVD filled with noir-like “visualettes” to enhance fans’ listening (and viewing) experience.
“I wanted to really investigate how we’re controlled by the theatre of despair. I wanted to look at power — how we think and how you can reclaim the right to think for yourself,” Amos explained on her official Web site.
Amos’ definition of sin, as it relates to the album’s title and theme, differs from typical conceptions. She went on to explain, “What is sinful? It’s not what the church says to me is sinful. It’s me degrading myself, or somebody else wanting to degrade me and me allowing it to happen.”
This is Amos’ first tour since her American Doll Posse World Tour, which ran from May through December 2007. During that outing, Amos performed five sets each night, tapping into the five drastically different personas developed on her 2007 album “American Doll Posse.”
