Always dreamed of being in a Broadway show? Here’s your chance. The producers of the new Broadway musical adaptation of Catch Me If You Can are inviting male actors in their 20s to audition for the role of the real-life character Frank Abagnale Jr., the master thief and impersonator who was played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the filmed version of his story. The musical is in development with book by Terrence McNally with music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Witman. Tony Award winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell is also rumored to be on tap. The auditions are scheduled to take place in Orlando at the Columbus Center Dance Academy today, Jan. 17, in New York at Telsey + Company on West 43rd Street on Jan. 19 and in Chicago at Lou Conte Dance Center on Jan. 23.

Abagnale was the extraordinary teen-aged imposter who came to fame after posing successfully as a doctor, attorney, and an airline pilot before being captured by a persist FBI agent, played by Tom Hanks in the Steven Spielberg-directed 2002 movie. In a recent reading of the planned Broadway production, Nathan Lane was featured as the FBI agent.

In other Broadway news, a new showcase for Will Ferrell’s comedic talents is in the works: a solo show he is writing that will include a cast and band, according to the New York Post. The show has not yet received a title. Jeffrey Richards will produce the show, and his credits include this season’s August: Osage County and The Homecoming.

Ferrell, a former regular on “Saturday Night Live” from 1995-2006, has starred in such movie hits as “Old School,” “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and “Blades of Glory,” and recently helped create the comedy website FunnyOrDie.com.
