Developments on the Beastie Boys’ summer plans and new dates from Bruce Springsteen top the daily tour recap for July 20, as compiled by TicketNews.
Original Beastie Boys member Adam “MCA” Yauch announced today that he has been diagnosed with cancer. The tumor is on his salivary glands and a bit of his lymph nodes. Though he is expected to recover after surgery and further treatement, and his vocal chords will not be affected, Yauch announced that the Beasties’ tour dates have been cancelled for the summer and the release of their newest album has been delayed indefinitely.
In other concert and touring news, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band have extended their U.S. tour plans for this year to include more than 10 additional cities and a total of 25 concerts. Another American music icon, Brian Wilson, will also tour the U.S. this fall for a 17-city tour that is currently booked from late October through early December. Finally, public ticket sales open tomorrow for the 2009 Bumbershoot Festival, which takes place September 5-7 at the Seattle Center in Seattle, WA.

Willie Nelson is on the road with Bob Dylan this summer, touring the nation’s ballparks. When that venture wraps on August 16 at Harveys Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena in Stateline, NV, the country musician will continue touring through October for more than 10 headline concerts and additional dates with Dave Matthews Band. Nelson’s solo schedule runs from September 17 at First Council Casino in Newkirk, OK, through October 24 at Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, LA. Stops include a September 19 show at Mud Island Amphitheatre in Memphis, TN, a September 24 gig at Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing, MI, an October 4 appearance at the 2009 Farm Aid event in Maryland Heights, MO, and an October 22 set at Marina Civic Center in Panama City, FL.
Mike Gordon of Phish will follow his band’s summer jamming with a fresh batch of 20 solo concerts this fall. The schedule begins with a September 8 show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY, and ends October 4 at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT. Other highlights for the tour include a September 9 concert at Somerville Theatre in Somerville, MA; a September 15 gig at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC; September 21 at Miglewood Hall in Memphis, TN; September 26 at Barrymore Theatre in Madison, WI; and October 2 at Mod Club in Toronto, ON.
Datarock is geared up for a nearly 30-date late summer and early fall tour of North America, which will launch August 28 at Les Foufounes Electriques in Montreal, QC. The trek continues with shows on September 7 at The Starlite Room in Edmonton, AB; September 17 at HighLine Ballroom in New York, NY; September 24 at Warehouse Live in Houston, TX; and September 30 at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. The whole outing will wrap up on October 3 at Nectar Lounge in Seattle, WA, after about five weeks of coast-to-coast performances.
Joan Baez is pushing the boundaries of her 2009 international touring schedule further out into late fall. After a lengthy summer tour of the U.S. and an October jaunt across the UK, the folk songstress will launch into a 10-city tour of Europe. As it stands now, Baez’s newest tour leg will pick up October 17 at Cultuurcentrum Brugge in Brugge, BEL, and end November 4 at SAS Falkoner Center in Frederiksberg, DEN. Some of the other confirmed concerts include an October 20 performance at Royal Carre Theatre in Amsterdam, NET, an October 26 show at Zenith in Nantes, FRA, and a November 3 concert at Cirkus in Stockholm, SWE.
Kid Koala has lined up an eight-city tour of North America later this year. The outing picks up September 23 at Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC, and ends October 4 at Abbey Pub in Chicago, IL.
