U.S. seen opposing LiveNation, Ticketmaster deal

The proposed merger between Ticketmaster and LiveNation will most likely be opposed by the Department of Justice. The deal has been criticized by musicians, antitrust lawyers, and politicians alike. Under the new administration, the Department of Justice is taking a tougher look at mergers.

Whether you voted for Obama

Whether you voted for Obama or not, it's nice to see the DOJ finally has some teeth when it comes to mergers, and the days of rubber stamp approvals are over. The Ticketmaster acquisitions of both TicketsNow and Paciolan should have never been approved if the DOJ was doing its job. Paciolan went through a lengthy approval process, where TicketsNow was approved fairly quickly.
