Will the Undertaker continue his reign as the undefeated king of WrestleMania, or will someone finally keep him down? Will Brock Lesnar return to the ring? How will The Rock keep his promise to “electrify like never before?” The Road to WrestleMania 29 has begun.
The 29th installment of World Wrestling Entertainment’s WrestleMania will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The home of the NFL’s New York Giants and Jets holds over 82,000 seats for football games, offering the perfect location to hold such an explosive event like WrestleMania.
The official logo for the WrestleMania 29 bills the event as “WrestleMania NY/NJ,” and it will be the third time in the event’s history that it will take place in New Jersey. The region could see a drastic improvement in economic performance due to increased tourism from traveling fans.
According to the NY Post, WrestleMania29 “could result in a record-setting economic performance for the Tri-State area.” The Post recently obtained an exclusive study performed by Enigma Research Corporation, finding that “Wrestlemania 29 could generate well over $100 million for the New York/New Jersey area.” Enigma Research Corporation found that WrestleMania 28 generated “$102.7 million in direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending by non-locals” who traveled to the Miami area for Wrestlemania 28.
The economy of the tri-state area could see a marked boost from next year’s WrestleMania. John Saboor, Senior Vice President of Special Events for WWE, told the New York Post that the WWE expects “over 70,000 to attend the event at MetLife Stadium and another 50,000 to take part in the other events during the week.” Saboor went on to state that “Wrestlemania 29 and Wrestlemania week is very much planned as a regional presentation and is designed to not only welcome fans from throughout the world but to create opportunities for fans on both sides of the Hudson River.”
In addition to pleasing wrestling fans, WrestleMania will be a boon to business owners around the stadium and throughout the region. According to the New York Post, “Wrestlemania 28’s $102.7 million of revenue generated for Miami was the equivalent of creating 1,020 full-time jobs,” and it is possible that the tri-state area could see a similar influx. Many other events are also scheduled throughout the week of WrestleMania 29. The 2013 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at Madison Square Garden, with rumored inductees including Mick Foley and Kevin Nash. The WWE will also host several “Axxess” and charity events.
According to WWE, Wrestlemania is “the most spectacular event in live entertainment,” and tickets are scheduled to go on sale Saturday, November 10, at 10:00 a.m. ET. Travel packages are also available, more information can be found on WWE.com. For those unable to purchase tickets for 2013’s WrestleMania 29, the event will also be broadcast via pay-per-view. While no official announcements have been made as far as the scheduled lineup of Superstars and Divas, fans can be rest assured that WrestleMania will be an event to remember.
In addition to the regular weekly installments of Raw and Smackdown, WWE fans can look forward to a couple of other special events leading up to WrestleMania. WWE Survivor Series is scheduled for Novemeber 18 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN. While Brooklyn’s Barclays Center will hold it’s first WWE event on December 16 with a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match. Kicking off the new year Royal Rumble is set to take place January 27 from Phoenix, AZ. And lastly, an Elimination Chamber event will take place February 17 live from New Orleans Arena.
