Broadway Ticket Sales Report

Topping the list of high grossing productions this past week was Wicked—for the sixth straight week. It grossed $1,349,148 with almost 100% capacity. Following closely were Jersey Boys with $1,168,315 at 100% capacity and Mary Poppins with $1,040,740 at 86% capacity.
Spamalot, at over 90% capacity, reports a gross of $778,686; The Lion King at over 85%, reports $913,368; Mamma Mia at more than 85%, $757,226; A Chorus Line also at more than 85%, $712,073; and Avenue Q at almost 85%, $363,862.
At less than 50% capacity, The Little Dog Laughed grossed $205,049. Posting the largest gain, $49,321 over the previous week’s ticket sales, was The Lion King. Posting the biggest drop, $73,929 over the previous week’s sales, was The Phantom of the Opera.
Translations opened January 25th to good crowds, grossing $162,707 at almost 75% capacity. Previews of this Brian Friel play at the Biltmore began January 4th.
The producers of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee presented the Adult Show on Sunday, January 21st, an all-risqué version of the Tony Award-winning musical. It grossed $219,432 at close to 70% capacity.
Other productions reported satisfactory gross receipts and attendance: Spring Awakening $486,819 at 78% capacity, The Apple Tree $329,213 at more than 77% capacity, Les Miserables $555,395 at more than 76% capacity, and Grey Gardens $436,961 also at more than 76% capacity. The remaining productions’ attendance ranged between 54—72% of capacity.
No gross was reported for The Coast of Utopia, Part Two. Part Three, Salvage, will open to previews Tuesday, Jan. 30.
Total grosses for the week were $14,490,553.
