While Game 1 of the National League Championship Series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies is only one day away (Oct. 11) at Arizona’s Chase Field, plenty of seats are still available at the 48,569-capacity ballpark, although teams generally add more seats for post season games.

Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall told the Associated Press on Tuesday that about 8,000 seats remained available for the Thursday night and Friday night games; some reports indicated remaining seats were as high as 12,000. Hall said he expects about 40,000 for Game 1 and perhaps 48,000 for game two.

“I think we’ll get there,” Hall told AP. “Fans were waiting to see what the start times were.” The opener starts at 5:37 p.m. local time; the second game begins at 7:18 local time.

Interestingly, on Ticketnews’ Top Sports Events chart for the week ending Oct. 7, six of the top 10 sports events were baseball playoff games minus the Diamondbacks. The Rockies were second, and the Chicago Cubs, the Diamondbacks’ opponent in the first round of the playoffs, placed eighth.

For the National League Division Series, the Diamondbacks drew 48,864 to Game 1 against the Chicago Cubs on Oct. 3, and 48,575 to the second home game on Oct. 4. Tickets were reportedly scalped for $100-$500 at each game.

The Diamondbacks had less-than-sellouts before the World Series in 2001, when none of the post-season games sold out until the World Series. In past years, others teams, like the Atlanta Braves, had many unsold seats in post season action.
