Singer Scott Weiland, fired this week from Velvet Revolver, will not be idle for long. His old band, Stone Temple Pilots, is reuniting and launching a massive, 65-date North American summer tour, marking the first national tour for the band in almost eight years. The tour is scheduled to kick off May 17 with the band headlining the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, OH and will continue through November 2008.

The full tour itinerary will be announced at an exclusive launch event on April 7, sponsored by Spin magazine and Citi’s Private Pass Program to benefit the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. The event will include a private performance for a select group of contest winners and fans at a secret location in California’s Hollywood Hills. A select number of tickets will be available for purchase by going to Save the Music website, with all proceeds from the sale going to the charity.

Stone Temple Pilots will also launch a new Web site and an official fan club program on April 7 that will give members exclusive access to presale tickets for the band’s upcoming tour. VIP ticket packages that include premium seating will also be available.

Hard rock supergroup Velvet Revolver, formed in 2003 by Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, Wasted Youth’s Dave Kushner, and Weiland, fired Weiland following their final performance in Amsterdam, Holland.

“This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn’t 100 percent committed to either,” said Slash in a statement. “Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on.”

Wieland fired back at his former bandmates in an e-mail sent to MTV News the morning of April 3 and posted on the web.

“In response to Slash’s comment regarding my commitment [to the band], I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth,” Weiland stated. “The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun … at times. But let’s not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member — no need to mention his name).”

Citi’s Private Pass Program has begun offering a limited number of Gold and Platinum VIP packages to Stone Temple Pilots’ exclusive, private event on the 7th, including tickets, exclusive merchandise and meet and greet experiences.

Following the launch event, the reunited outfit will make their first national live appearance on the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on May 1.
