PRESS RELEASE: “Ticket News Announces Top Ticket Sellers for Week Ending October 10, 2009”
October 15, 2009 (Vernon, CT) – In a bid to pay off debt and further align itself with live music venues, Live Nation is reportedly close to finalizing a major deal to sell several theaters in the UK. While the specific terms have not been disclosed, media reports value the deal at more than £90 million, or in excess of $143.6 million. Live Nation currently owns more than a dozen theatres in the UK, including London’s Lyceum Theatre and Apollo Victoria, which currently house British versions of “The Lion King” and “Wicked” respectively.
On the concert front, U.S. fans of the Jonas Brothers were overjoyed to learn about eleven seemingly confirmed tour dates for the group posted on Live Nation’s website, complete with presale and public on sale dates for tickets. However, the pop group sensation recently stated that it had not confirmed any such tour plans. According to TicketNews, brothers Kevin, Joe and Nick said that no Christmas tour is planned, even though event pages created by Live Nation suggested otherwise. John Vlautin, vice president of communications for Live Nation, attributed the concert listings on the company’s site to an “employee error”.
Live Nation finished third in this week’s top overall sellers rankings with a power score of 4.20. The company was preceded in the rankings by primary ticketing giant Ticketmaster (power score 31.80) and secondary ticket giant StubHub (power score 22.72).

TicketNews.com developed the algorithm for the exclusive weekly rankings of the industry’s ticket sellers. Top sellers rankings and power scores are based on web traffic received by a ticket seller’s website. The power score is highly correlated with the number of transactions from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary ticket market exchange. A top seller power score illustrates a given seller’s category-specific significance. Three factors obtained from multiple independent resources are used to compare sellers within a particular category.
1. Number of unique visitors (IP addresses visiting a website in a
24-hour period).
2. Number of visits (a series of one or more page requests by a visitor
without 30 consecutive minutes of inactivity).
3. Page views (the average number of unique pages viewed by a unique
visitor).
Top seller power scores should only be used to compare sellers within a particular category. TicketNews.com also ranks the top events weekly. For more information, visit www.ticketnews.com/ticket_industry_rankings.
