It took a country superstar to knock Wicked out of its top spot in TicketNews’ Top Events Rankings with Taylor Swift now number one overall with an 11.51 power score. With the World Series in full swing and the New York Yankees at number two (7.96), Wicked falls to number three with a 5.52 power score. Yankee opponents the Philadelphia Phillies are number four (5.08). The Radio City Christmas Spectacular has been in these rankings for seven weeks now, and this week the show jumps to number five (2.72) from number seven. Bon Jovi enter the rankings at number six (2.46) and Lady Gaga makes an impressive jump from number fifteen to number nine (1.39). Jersey Boys remains in the overall top ten, at number seven (2.34), while the Green Bay Packers close out the overall top ten with a 1.37 power score.
Taylor Swift of course dominates the Top Concert Events rankings as well with a 30.68 power score; Radio City trails behind with a 7.25 power score. Holiday concert favorite the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is number four in the concert rankings, power score 4.07. Miley Cyrus (six, 2.92) beats out U2 (2.86), who fall to number seven from number three. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band still have a popular ticket, good enough for number eight and a 2.85 power score, as do Elton John & Billy Joel, who make number nine with a 2.02 power score. Breaking into the concert top ten with a 1.89 power score: the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Benefit Concert, which will take place on October 29 at Madison Square Garden.
World Series opponents the Yankees (19.67) and Phillies (9.31) take one and two in the sports rankings. NFL teams dominate the sports top ten for the most part, with the exception of a few NBA teams who slip in including the New York Knicks (three, 2.30), Los Angeles Lakers (five, 2.22) and Boston Celtics (seven, 1.78). The top selling NFL teams are the Dallas Cowboys (four, 2.24), Green Bay Packers (six, 1.97), New Orleans Saints (eight, 1.60), New England Patriots (nine, 1.58), and the Philadelphia Eagles (ten, 1.29).
“Wicked” sits atop the theater rankings with a 30.66 power score, followed by “Jersey Boys” (13.13), and Lion King (6.41). Billy Elliot (5.82) is number four. Mary Poppins proves itself a theater top seller by making number five (2.67). Andrea Bocelli is number seven (2.49), and rounding out the theater top ten: Phantom of the Opera (nine, 2.23), and Fiddler on the Roof (ten, 1.74).
On Broadway, the top shows mirror those off-Broadway and include A Steady Rain (five, 4.99) and West Side Story (six, 3.10). Hamlet received good reviews and its sales propel that show to number seven (3.06). Cirque du Soleil – Wintuk is number eight (2.55). And at number ten is God of Carnage with a 2.37 power score.
Bette Midler stays at number one in the Las Vegas Top Events rankings. Her 52.66 power score beats out number-two Cher’s 32.12 power score. Cirque du Soleil – O stays at number three (5.96); Donny & Marie Osmond move up to number four (2.28) from number five. Cirque du Soleil – The Beatles: Love is number five (2.20). Two more Vegas spectaculars make the rankings: Phantom the Las Vegas Spectacular (seven, 1.27) and Cirque du Soleil – KA (eight, 0.90). Jay Leno is number nine (0.43) and Improv is number ten (0.23).
