PRESS RELEASE: “Goldstar Announces Partnership with TED”

Altadena, CA (Goldstar) January 27, 2011 – Goldstar, the company that is using the power of the Internet to make live entertainment a part of everyone’s life, and TED, the nonprofit devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading,” announced a new partnership Wednesday, January 26 at a private reception with special guests at Broadway’s Foxwoods Theatre followed by a performance of the much anticipated “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.”

“Great ideas change lives and change the world. In Goldstar’s business, we see how live entertainment inspires our customers every day,” said Jim McCarthy, CEO of Goldstar. “As a TEDster myself, I believe in the power of bringing great ideas to as many people as possible, and that’s why we’re partnering with TED to do that.”

An active TED participant and the founder of a company that is a leader in the live entertainment industry, McCarthy wanted to find a way to introduce TED to the industry whilst encouraging the sector to also get involved with TED events.

“In a world where live events bring people together to connect as part of a community, we are delighted to have the support of Goldstar as a TED partner,” added Ronda Carnegie, TED Global Partnership Director.

Beyond supporting the TED brand, Goldstar is planning a TEDxLive event in Los Angeles timed with a session of the TED2011 conference. TEDx events are independently organized and operated under license from TED. They are designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. At TEDx events, a screening of TEDTalks videos — or a combination of live presenters and TEDTalks videos — sparks deep conversation and connections. The TEDx program has grown exponentially over the past couple of years, reaching a global audience of millions.

“As experts in getting people to live events, we feel supporting the TEDx program allows us to use our strengths to further the goal of getting the TED message and TED experience to as many people as possible,” adds McCarthy.

Goldstar continues to be an innovator in the live entertainment industry. The popular web site connects a spectrum of event offerings from its 4,000 venue partners with a wide array of people who are looking for something to do. For nearly nine years, Goldstar has been dedicated to giving people the tools and opportunities to engage in arts and entertainment events in their community. Goldstar sincerely believes this kind of shared experience, much like TEDx events, enriches the lives of many. Goldstar will help the program financially but will also contribute with logistics and content.

In addition, Goldstar will support and participate in the TEDx Workshop at TEDActive, February 28-March 4, in Palm Springs.

About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Long Beach, California, along with the TEDActive simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.

TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
