Fresh off a headline slot at Coachella 2011, rock royalty Kings of Leon has unveiled a 27-date tour of the United States. The band’s routing will hit sheds and amphitheaters across the nation throughout the late summer months.
A July 26 concert at the Amphitheater at The Wharf in Orange Beach, AL, serves as the summer calendar’s kick-off. The coast-to-coast venture ultimately wraps after nearly two months with a September 12 gig at KeyArena in Seattle, WA.
Kings of Leon’s U.S. routing also includes performances on August 5 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Charlotte, NC; August 19 at Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA; August 31-September 1 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO; and September 10 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA.
Ticket sales for select tour dates open to the public on April 29-30, with later rounds of onsales following on May 6-7 and May 13-14. Only the tour opener in Alabama is posted on Ticketmaster.com at present; ticket prices for that show range from $25 to $57 (before fees).
Kings of Leon is touring behind the October 2010 release of its fifth studio album, “Come Around Sundown.” It is the group’s highest-charting record to date, with a No. 2 debut on the Billboard 200. (The band’s 2008 break-through, “Only by the Night,” peaked at No. 4.)
This year, the band’s national performance calendar started off with a bang. April 15 marked Kings of Leon’s second appearance at Coachella — and their first time headlining the iconic destination music festival.
Over the past few years, Kings of Leon has headlined a string of summer and fall tour legs &mdash most recently, a summer-long 2010 tour and a summer-to-fall venture in 2009. The Southern rock crew also completed a late fall trek in 2008, back before they had graduated from mid-sized venues to the full-sized arenas and amphitheaters where they play now.
