Carlos Santana is hitting the road later this year for a North American tour, but he won’t be the only act on the bill. Comedian George Lopez will accompany the legendary guitarist on five nights of the 26-city trek, while Michael Franti & Spearhead are special guests for the remainder of the tour.
Santana’s late summer Sound of Collective Consciousness Tour kicks off August 25 at White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, WA, and wraps October 1 at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA. Gigs include August 27 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC; September 14 at The Moody Theatre in Austin, TX; and September 30 at Fantasy Springs in Indio, CA.
A subsection of the tour, which includes the closing show at the Hollywood Bowl, is dubbed “Divine Rascals” and features Lopez. The stand-up comedian will also appear September 3-4 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO; September 24 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA; and September 25 at Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord, CA.
Ticket sales begin May 13 for Divine Rascals and the larger SOCC Tour, according to press releases for both. However, ticket prices have not yet been divulged on Santana’s official Web site or his fan club Web site, which will be hosting presales on a to-be-determined date.
“I’m delighted to be going on the road with George Lopez,” Santana said in the release announcing the Divine Rascals shows. “Besides giving me the chance to perform alongside a dear friend, these shows take me back to the grand old Bill Graham days, when different kinds of entertainment were featured on the same bill. Divine Rascals will be a joyous experience.”
Last summer also featured Santana on tour with a recognizable name. The Universal Tone Tour paired Santana with Steve Winwood for more than 20 North American concerts. That venture was, of course, in addition to Santana’s residency concerts in Las Vegas.
But in 2011, Santana’s sights aren’t set solely on North America. From early June through July, the guitar slinger and his band will perform two dozen dates on the Guitar Heaven European Tour.
