Popular rockers Coldplay continued to have success in TicketNews’ exclusive events rankings, finishing at No. 2 for the week ending Sunday, January 8.
The band’s strong secondary sales have kept them in the top ten since mid-December, when tickets for their 2012 North American tour went on sale to the public. They will begin their tour in support of their latest album, “Mylo Xyloto,” on April 17 in Edmonton, AB.
Alternative metal group Tool joined Coldplay as the only other music group in the top five coming in at No. 5. The label-defying rockers start their Winter Tour this week, playing Reno, NV, on January 12.
It was once again theater events that led the secondary market this week, with the long running hit “Wicked” taking No. 1 for the third consecutive week. “The Book of Mormon” also ranked high, finishing at No. 3.
The NFL Playoffs officially kicked off this past weekend, and tickets to multiple games found their way into the rankings. Tickets to the San Francisco 49ers January 14 NFC Divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints came in at No. 7, while Denver Broncos tickets for this weekend’s AFC Wild Card playoff stunner against the Pittsburgh Steelers made it to No. 9.
NFL Playoff events outside of the top ten were the New York Giants Wild Card win over the Atlanta Falcons (No. 13), Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis (No. 14) and the Houston Texans Wild Card win over the Cincinnati Bengals (No. 18).
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. Since the sum of all events’ power scores equals 100 in any given category, an individual event’s Power Score represents its category-specific significance. Top Event Power Scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category, and not across categories.
