Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, ON, made its first appearance at the No. 1 position in TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings, thanks largely to the British-Irish invasion of popular boy band One Direction.
Just as Madonna did in early March, the teen group are selling hot this week in advance of their North American tour, and many venues are reaping the benefits.
Molson Amphitheatre, the sole Canadian stop for the group on the North American leg of their Up All Night tour, will host them for two dates at the end of May. Molson has a number of other hot sellers on tap this season, including the Dave Matthews Band, Jason Aldean, KISS with Motley Crue, and the current top American boy band, Big Time Rush.
Just prior to their Canada dates, One Direction makes their American debut as headliners, with the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ, (at No. 3) their second stop. The venue’s numbers also benefit this week from Bruce Springsteen’s Wrecking Ball Tour, which comes to the venue for two dates next week.
Other venues getting a boost from One Direction summer tour dates include New York’s Beacon Theatre, in at No. 6, the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL, in at No. 8, and the Gexa Energy Pavilion, finishing the week at No. 10.
Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantaugh, NY, made its seasonal debut in the top ten this week, coming in at No. 5. The outdoor amphitheatre hosts a number of top selling artists this summer, including Drake, DMB, Neil Diamond, and the Beach Boys.
