Michael Riedel of the New York Post is reporting that Bruce Springsteen is headed for a run of shows at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway this fall, performing a pared-down version of his famed live show in the intimate, 975-seat venue in New York.

“He wants to play a smaller house,” according to a source quoted in the Post. “He wants to try something more intimate, and he likes the idea of being on Broadway.”

The story goes on to report that the theatre – which has been vacant since the closing of “Amelie” in May – gave The Boss the space rent-free, in exchange for the revenue from the concessions. “He’ll keep the lights on in the building, and they’ll sell gazillions of dollars worth of booze,” a source told the Post.
