The Strokes are headed back to their hometown this New Year’s Eve for a special show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

The December 31 gig will be the band’s first time performing in the city since their reunion earlier this year. While they were supposed to headline Governor’s Ball on Randall’s Island, the final day of the festival ended in chaos after severe thunderstorms broke out, cancelling several artists’ sets. The New Year’s Eve show will somewhat serve as a makeup show for New York City fans that missed out on seeing the band at Gov Ball.

Ahead of the concert, The Strokes can be found performing at festivals like Ohana Music Festival in Dana Point in California, Mexico City’s Corona Capital, the Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Italy, and Peru’s Vivo X El Rock.

Late last year, the group announced their “global comeback” with two festival appearances in Spain. While the band remained idle over the past year, members had been busy working on their own side projects; frontman Julian Casablancas released a record with his band The Voidz and guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. released his fourth solo record. However, the group hadn’t hit the road together since 2017 or released music since 2016’s EP Future Present Past and 2013’s LP Comedown Machine.

During their first gig back in May, the band debuted “The Adults Are Talking,” but since then, there hasn’t been news of new music. Those hoping to hear more are in luck, as the group’s booking agent accidentally slipped and said that the band will be “coming with new music” during an interview with Music Business Worldwide.
