Austin FC fans are showing off their commitment to the team ahead of its inuagural season in 2021 by continuing to sell a substantial amount of tickets.
When the club first opened up season ticket deposits to the public in June, the team set an MLS record by selling 30,000 within 24 hours. Austin FC has since sold nearly 40,000 tickets, which is helping the club meets its goal to sell-out the stadium. Club president Andy Loughnane told MLSsoccer.com that the sales numbers have “once again validated Austin’s love of major league sports.”
“The last 12 months have produced so much positivity,” Loughnane said. “We are incredibly fortunate that there has been so much support for the team. Perhaps our early success has exceeded the marketplace’s expectations and the national audience’s expectations.”
He explained that the franchise is being built at “an incredible pace, maybe even faster than one would have expected.”
The team’s chief revenue officer, Clark Beacom, said that they are currently rearranging the stadium and offering seat locations in the order where deposits were placed, noting that “we are going to use the time we have to ensure that season ticket members find what’s right for them.”
Austin FC first announced they would be joining the league in January 2019 and are set to play at a new stadium, McKalla Place, in north central Austin. The stadium will be able to hold 20,500 people, with a special selection for Austin FC supporters. In an attempt to boost sales, the club launched a multi-year partnership with ticketing platform SeatGeek. Through the partnership, fans will be able to see a fully-immersive, 360-degree virtual stadium tour to help them decide where they want to sit in the new $200 million stadium.
