Philadelphia’s urban music festival Roots Picnic has recruited hometown hero Meek Mill to headline its 2020 edition. DaBaby, Summer Walker, Burna Boy, Thundercat, and Snoh Aalegra are also among the slate of participating artists who will visit the May 30 bash at the Mann Center at Fairmount Park.

The event will also feature a specially-curated set with Brandy, SWV and Musiq Soulchild, presented on behalf of legendary R&B group and festival co-founder The Roots.

“Always a highlight of the year, The Roots Picnic continues to grow and solidify itself as a cornerstone of Philadelphia culture,” Live Nation Urban president and Roots Picnic co-founder Shawn Gee said in a statement. “This year we are presenting a few special collaborative sets, one specifically with the Roots celebrating R&B music, with some legendary artists.

“Personally, I am excited that Meek Mill will grace the Roots Picnic stage this year, as this is the only major event in our hometown that he hasn’t played yet. We are also excited to be back at the Mann Center in Fairmount Park and looking forward to another great year.”

The Roots Picnic places a heavy emphasis on urban music and culture, with its upcoming installment set to feature three stages for music, gaming and art and dialogue. The latter includes a live podcast experience featuring new episodes of Questlove Supreme, CRWN with Elliott Wilson, The Read and Around the Way Curls Podcast.

Over the course of its 13-year run, Roots Picnic has welcomed major names like Snoop Dogg, Usher, Pharrell, The Weeknd, Solange, Janelle Monae, Swizz Beatz and A$AP Rocky.
