Pennsylvania’s Mohegan Sun Arena will host more post-game concerts this year in order to boost attendance for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins games.

Mohegan Sun’s general manager Will Beekman spoke at the Luzerne County Convention Center Authority during a meeting this week, where he talked about two recent home games with tribute band concerts. According to the Citizens Voice, Beekman said that the Led Zeppelin and Dave Matthews Band tribute shows were a “learning experience” and the night “couldn’t have gone much better,” noting that the Penguins first came up with the idea to host more post-game shows after seeing other teams within the American Hockey League have success with the concept.

“It’s helping bolster ticket sales for the hockey games, which is something the Penguins are interested in doing of course and we would be interested in seeing happen as well,” Beekman said. “Obviously, it’s more people in the doors buying chicken fingers and drinking beer. That’s good for everyone.”

Beekman expects the arena to host another post-concert game this season, as well as several acts next year.

In addition to post-game shows, the Arena will host a variety of musical acts in 2020, like country superstar Tim McGraw, which Beekman thinks will “sell really well and hopefully quickly.” Other upcoming acts include Aaron Lewis of Staind, Alice Cooper, and Alabama.
