For the second straight year, there will be no Glastonbury Festival, organizers reveled in a website post Thursday. The ongoing COVID pandemic led organizers to officially call off the annual summer fete, which normally occurs in June.
“With great regret, we must announce that this year’s Glastonbury Festival will not take place, and that this will be another enforced fallow year for us,” reads a post on the festival website, signed by promoters Michael and Emily Eavis. “In spite of our efforts to move Heaven & Earth, it has become clear that we simply will not be able to make the Festival happen this year. We are so sorry to let you all down.”
Ideas had been floated for massive COVID testing as part of the admissions plan, but rumors began to spread in recent weeks that such efforts might still not be enough to convince authorities to sign off on allowing such a large gathering while vaccination efforts are still unfolding across the globe.
Those who purchased tickets for either the 2020 or 2021 editions are welcome once again to roll those reservations forward to 2022. Refunds are also available without penalty through the end of December, 2021. The 2022 festival, scheduled to take place from 22-26 June, 2022, is already sold out due to so many rolled-over reservations, though some may become available in resale periods due to cancelled existing reservations.
