The Broadway production “A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical” is scheduled to play its final performance on February 23. 

The musical, which debuted on Broadway in November 2024, will have completed 151 performances, including 31 previews, by the time it closes.

The production, which premiered at Studio 54 on November 11, follows the life and career of Louis Armstrong.  The musical offers a different perspective on Armstrong’s life, told through the eyes of the women who shaped and supported him throughout his career.

Starring in the title role of Armstrong is James Monroe Iglehart, who also co-directs the production alongside Christina Sajous. The cast also includes Dionne Figgins as Daisy Parker, Jennie Harney-Fleming as Lil Hardin, Kim Exum as Alpha Smith, and Darlesia Cearcy as Lucille Wilson.

The musical’s creative team is headed by director Christopher Renshaw. The show features choreography and musical staging by Rickey Tripp, with scenic and video design by Adam Koch and Steven Royal. Toni-Leslie James designed the costumes, and Cory Pattak was responsible for lighting design. The production sound design is by Kai Harada, and the wig and hair design is by Matthew Armentrout.

Music supervisor Daryl Waters leads the musical team, supported by Branford Marsalis, who has crafted orchestrations and arrangements for the production. Darryl G. Ivey serves as the music director, and Zane Mark is the dance music arranger.

The musical’s book is written by Aurin Squire and features a combination of Armstrong’s songs and original music arrangements.

In a joint statement, the musical producers shared, “it is with mixed emotions that we announce the closing of A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical.”
