It’s been nearly two years since U.S. fans of Radiohead had a chance to see the legendary British alt-rock troupe on U.S. soil. But the wait will soon be over.
Earlier today, September 19, Radiohead announced its plans for a pair of performances to take place next week in New York City. The sets are scheduled for September 28 and 29 at the city’s historic Roseland Ballroom, and will feature opening performances by Four Tet and Rocketnumbernine.
Public onsales begin Monday, September 26, at 10 a.m. local time for both concerts. Ticket prices are set at $65 apiece, plus an additional $14.75 in fees, according to Ticketmaster.com.
While the midtown Manhattan venue is far from “small” by industry standards, its standing-room capacity of 3,200 makes it instantly more intimate than the arenas and stadiums typically played by frontman Thom Yorke and his musical cohorts. Limited ticket supplies and mass demand from U.S. fans likely will add up to a red-hot onsale and a quick sell-out for both Roseland shows.
The British band appears to be prepared for such supply and demand issues. According to a statement from Radiohead’s U.S. publicity team, orders will be strictly limited to two tickets per household and no tickets will be issued prior to the night of the show.
Tickets will be available for pick-up at Will Call at 6:30 p.m. on the night of the shows, and entry into the venue is required immediately after receiving tickets at the window.
Radiohead concert listings on Ticketmaster.com carry similar instructions, also noting that the ticketing giant “will automatically void any duplicate accounts to ensure that every customer is limited to 2 tickets.” The notation goes on to add, “There will be no alternate pick-ups for this event and no re-entry.”
The concerts come as Radiohead will be in New York for performances on the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” on September 24, and a special hour-long episode of “The Colbert Report,” scheduled to air September 26.
The British band has not headlined any U.S. shows since releasing its latest full-length record “The King of Limbs” in February. Prior to that, the band last performed stateside for a Haiti relief concert on January 24, 2010, in Los Angeles. Even longer ago still, Radiohead’s last major effort in the country was its 2008 summer tour.
Apart from his Radiohead comrades, Yorke briefly toured the United States in April 2010 with his side project Atoms for Peace. Tickets quickly sold out for that tour’s New York City stop — also a two-nighter at the Roseland Ballroom.
