After cancelling an earlier scheduled U.S. run, British songstress Adele has announced renewed plans to tour the States in 2009. The trek is slated to begin January 14 at Somerville Theater in Somerville, MA, and wraps January 30 at The Avalon in Los Angeles, CA.

The 11-date jaunt focuses primarily on the East and West Coasts, with a few shows booked for the interior states, like a January 19 gig at Park West in Chicago, IL, and a January 22 concert at the Bluebird Theater in Denver, CO. Other highlights include a January 17 performance at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, and a January 27 gig at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland, OR.

The 20-year-old singer is supporting her debut “19,” which was written and released by Adele when she was that age. The record was first released on January 28 in the UK, where it peaked at No. 1 on album sales charts during the first week of February.

“I never, ever thought I’d get signed,” Adele is quoted on her Web site about recently signing to indie label XL Records, which is also home to the likes of Vampire Weekend and Beck. “The A&R guy emailed me and I was ignoring it… I didn’t realise they [XL] did all these amazing names.”

Although the disc was released in the U.S. in early June, Adele did not breakthrough until her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, in an episode that also featured a guest appearance by Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Following her performance on the show, Adele’s album shot to No. 1 on iTunes and peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200.

“It’s all been a bit too much to take in this year, really. It’s been so incredible, it feels like about five years worth of stuff has been crammed into one,” the singer-songwriter explained on her Web site.

Adele cancelled a tour of Germany, Japan, and the U.S. in early September, citing “problems at home.” In a statement on her site, she wrote, “I was really looking forward to touring again and throwing myself back into it all. But my home life needs more attention right now. I apologise from the bottom of my heart for disappointing you all, I’m truly gutted!”
