Alanis Morissette, Grammy winning singer-songwriter, announced her upcoming North American tour. On August 25, the Guardian Angel Tour starts in Montclair, New Jersey. Morissette will use the tour to promote her upcoming album, “Havoc and Bright Lights,” which goes on sale August 28. The tour will wrap up on November 1 at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, AZ. This is Morissette’s first tour since 2008’s Flavors of Entanglement.

As a teenager, Morissette sprang onto the Canadian music scene by indulging in a dance-pop aesthetic. Through MCA Records Canada, Morissette released “Alanis” and “Now is the Time” in 1991 and 1992 respectively. The album “Alanis” garnered Morissette a Juno Award for Most Promising Female Artist.

After the release of “Now is the Time,” Morissette moved to Los Angeles to further advance her career. Teaming up with producer Glen Ballard in 1994, Morissette decided to explore her edgier, alternative rock side. In 1995, under the label Maverick Records, Morissette released her international album “Jagged Little Pill.” Morissette quickly gained fame through the song “You Oughta Know.” This album was in the Top Ten for sixty-nine weeks. Other popular singles off “Jagged Little Pill” were “All I Really Want,” “Hand in My Pocket,” and “Ironic.”

In 1996, Morissette was nominated for six Grammys. She received Song of the Year and Album of the Year, among others. With the upcoming “Havoc and Bright Lights,” Morissette has released a total of eight albums. These other album titles include “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie,” “Under Rug Swept,” “So-Called Chaos,” and “Flavors of Entanglement.” She has won a total of seven Grammys, twelve Juno Awards, and sold over sixty million albums.

Morissette’s music once revolved around her angst and break-ups. Her songs now have a more introspective and spiritual feel to them. In a press release on PR News Wire, Morissette discussed her excitement of the upcoming tour. She stated, “I am thrilled to be able to play and tour with my family, blending my personal and artistic fulfillment into one sweaty, feisty, expressed, communal traveling circus! I look forward to connecting with everyone face to face, as well as through the many social networks of this exciting new climate.”

She also discussed the theme of the new album “Havoc and Bright Lights.” Morissette said, “This record, as always, is a snapshot of what I currently obsess about, care deeply about, and what strikes me at 4 in the morning in my most introspective moments. It is my emotional, psychological, social and philosophical commentary through song. I can’t wait to share it with this fun and funny planet, and to tour, and can’t WAIT to have the lively, engaging and challenging conversations that these songs may invite.”

“Guardian” is the hit song of her new album. Dave Simpson of the United Kingdom’s The Guardian said it “may be her best song of the century.”

Pre-sales opened for the tour on August 14 with a password being released on Morissette’s official website. Tour locations include Atlantic City, San Diego, Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston, and New York City. The tour will present songs from both “Havoc and Bright Lights” as well as Morisette’s previous releases. Tickets for the Guardian Angel Tour go on sale to the general public today, August 17 at 10:00 a.m.
