Pop-punk bands Alkaline Trio and Saves the Day will hit the roads in April for a brief 10-city tour through a handful of northern states. The trek begins April 18 at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN, and closes two weeks later with an April 30 performance at Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia, PA.
The rest of the tour is filled out with an April 20-21 stand at Metro/Smart Bar in Chicago, IL, an April 26 gig at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY, and an April 28 performance at HighLine Ballroom in New York, NY, among other dates.
Alkaline Trio is continuing to support its sixth studio album, “Agony & Irony,” which was released in July 2008. The record peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200, the band’s highest-ever charting position on the main chart, though 2003’s “Good Mourning” topped the independent albums chart.
Saves the Day is touring behind its sixth studio album “Under the Boards.” The 2007 release is the second in a three-part trilogy, which will be completed with the projected 2009 release “Daybreak.”
The April outing will be the first for Saves the Day since the departure of long-time guitarist David Soloway, who had been with the band since 1998. Soloway’s decision to leave was just announced in early March, making frontman Chris Conley the only remaining original member in the band.
“My first reaction, hearing the news that I would lose my friend and partner in Saves The Day, was to disband the group, as I could not envision playing music onstage without him,” explained Conley in a statement on the band’s Web site. “After further thought, and following an intimate acoustic tour this past summer with Matt Pryor, I began to realize how much I care about our music and our fans. I realized that I do not want to stop playing this music.”
